Whitmore is Makeover-bound! Laura is much more nervous about the RRP Makeover Competitive Trail division than she was about their first goal of leading the post parade on Whitmore Day at Oaklawn Park.
This new training goal will ask of Whitmore a precise obedience and acceptance of obstacles and situations that constantly change. For Whitmore, his emotions can get the best of him. Can Laura make him a safe horse to sit on in varying conditions? And then take it into the show ring in October at the RRP Makeover?
Find out how retraining is going, and learn about a couple of "firsts" that just recently happened in Whitmore's new retirement journey with his loving owner's Laura and Ron.

From sale reject, to problem child, to the unlikeliest of champions, Whitmore took his connections and fans on an illustrious journey, winning at the top level for a remarkable six years and capturing hearts through his final race in August 2021. Whitmore was the toughest charge Laura Moquett had ever seen, but the patience of his humans paid off— Whitmore won $4.5 million on his way to winning a Breeders’ Cup sprint + Eclipse Sprint Champion 2020!
Now in his retraining, will he cooperate or will Laura be driven to her “Whit’s End”?
The first goal is for Whitmore to lead the post parade for the inaugural Whitmore Stakes, a race formerly called the Hot Springs which he won four times, and which Oaklawn Park has renamed in his honor. Oaklawn will be celebrating Whitmore Day that day in hopes the fan favorite can be available for photo opps and a retirement party of sorts. Laura will have her work cut out for her getting him there!
So far he’s impressed her with his retention of basic training, but not without some double-barrel kicks and bucks along the way— or the middle finger as his team likes to call it.

When Jordan saw 3-year-old Lanse step off the trailer for a layoff at Crestwood Farm (her workplace), she knew he was something special. What she found out next was serendipitous— he wasn’t going back to the racetrack and he needed a new home. Immediately Jordan called dibs and voila-- Lanse is trying his hand in several areas of competition, including the hunter ring, jumper ring, and cross-country course.
Jordan had put some savings away in hopes of buying a “weanling project.” But through a story on social media, she was led to Barry Lee, a former successful Sagamore runner who’d fallen down the claiming ranks. Barry arrived underweight, but Jordan had him in a competition with just 15 rides off the track!
Barry & Lanse's Pedigree:
Lanse: More Than Ready - Union Flag
Barry: Violence - Light of a Star
